Do you hate running ?
Sure, most people do. Probably your first few runs went like this..
- I had to push hard
- I was out of breath
- My heart rate was very high
- It was so painful, I could not walk the entire day
- I was embarrassingly slow
Yet, very soon like every other runner , your vocabulary will include words like goal pace, tempo pace, garmin time, heart rate monitor etc . You get hooked on to running and actually start enjoying it. This is because of the psychological changes that you feel due to the release of certain hormones in the body when you do any kind of physical activity. There is a sense of happiness and achievement every time you finish a run. Your self worth soars.
Interestingly, running addiction can cure another addiction- depression. Running or any physical activity is the best anti- depressant. It also brings with it a host of benefits associated with physical activity like weight loss, normalizing blood sugars, increasing stamina etc
Try it out, one step at a time. All you need is a pair of shoes and courage in your lungs.
